HELPFUL ANSWERS
A little clarity.
A place to begin.
Curious about Guided Beat-Making? Find out what the experience is, how lessons differ, and what to ask before you book.
01 / THE EXPERIENCE
What you’re stepping into.
What is Therapy of Sounds?
Therapy of Sounds is an independent Creative Mental Wellness business that uses music, artistic expression, and supportive human connection to provide creative outlets for people navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and everyday life challenges.
Through welcoming creative experiences, Therapy of Sounds encourages personal expression, enjoyment, and exploration without pressure or judgment.
Music education and professional production services are additional pathways within the business.
Create. Release. Reset.
Is Guided Beat-Making therapy?
No. Guided Beat-Making is a nonclinical creative experience. Therapy of Sounds does not provide psychotherapy, counseling, diagnosis, or mental health treatment. Sessions do not replace care from a qualified mental health professional.
How is Guided Beat-Making different from production lessons?
Guided Beat-Making focuses on creative participation, exploration, and enjoyment with personal guidance. Music Production Lessons focus on developing production skills through structured instruction. Both are hands-on; you do not need to become a producer to enjoy a guided experience.
What happens during a guided session?
You work in free music-production software on your own computer while I demonstrate and guide you over Zoom. Explore sounds and build a rhythm, experiment with its mood and texture, then pause and listen back. You can begin with an idea, a feeling or simple curiosity. The focus is on trying things and noticing what interests you—not on getting everything right. Explore Guided Beat-Making →
What does Create. Release. Reset. mean?
Create: make something without needing it to be perfect.
Release: explore what’s on your mind through sound and experimentation.
Reset: pause, listen back and reflect on the experience.
Will I need to finish a song or share personal feelings?
No. Ordinary conversation is welcome, but you can focus entirely on creating. You do not need to disclose a diagnosis or explain why you want to participate. Any conversation and encouragement remain within the agreed creative session.
02 / GETTING STARTED
Start with curiosity.
Do I need music or production experience?
No production experience is required for Guided Beat-Making. Production lessons are also beginner-friendly. You don’t need a finished idea to get started; tell me what interests you and what you’ve tried, if anything.
Do I need equipment or music software?
For Guided Beat-Making, you make music yourself with my guidance. You’ll need a suitable computer, headphones, a reliable internet connection, Zoom, and free music-production software. Your audio setup must let you hear the music and speak during the session. Confirm the software and your computer’s compatibility when you inquire, before booking or installing anything.
For Music Production Lessons, tell me your device and any software you use so we can confirm a suitable setup and software support before booking or buying anything.
What is a DAW?
A digital audio workstation, or DAW, is software used to record, arrange and edit music. You don’t need to know all the terminology to ask about lessons. The Creative Toolkit has software links you can explore.
Which DAWs do you teach?
If you use a particular DAW—or are choosing your first one—include its name and your device when you ask about production lessons. Confirm that your software and learning goals can be supported before booking.
03 / PLANNING A SESSION
Before you book.
Are sessions online or in person?
Guided Beat-Making takes place in a private, one-on-one Zoom session. Music Production Lessons are also one-on-one and online. Ask about availability before booking; for lessons, confirm the setup and software support for your goals.
How long does a session last?
Guided Beat-Making offers a 45-minute Creative Reset, a 60-minute Full Guided Session, or a 4-Session Journey with four 60-minute sessions. Music Production Lessons offer 60-minute or 90-minute lessons, or Production Foundations with four 60-minute lessons. Compare the options and prices →
How much does it cost, and how do I get started?
Guided Beat-Making costs $45 for 45 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes, or $210 for four 60-minute sessions. Music Production Lessons cost $65 for 60 minutes, $90 for 90 minutes, or $230 for four 60-minute lessons. See Pricing for the full options, then start a conversation with the experience you’re interested in. Confirm availability before booking; for lessons, include your goals, device, and software so we can confirm compatibility.
04 / KEEP EXPLORING
Music, resources & community.
Who is Devious Sounds?
Devious Sounds is the producer identity of Dedrick Odomes, the creator of Therapy of Sounds. Meet the person behind it or hear the music.
Is there something I can try on my own first?
Yes. Visit Resources for a simple first-loop exercise, reflection prompts and the existing Beats & Balance PDF guide. You can also explore the production toolkit and Journal at your own pace.
Can I use a Devious Sounds track in my project?
Review the music usage terms and the license for the track you want to use. If your project needs clarification, ask before using the music.
